Vintage Tasting Notes

2021 Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon

From the Yountville AVA in the heart of Napa, this powerhouse Cabernet is brand new in the sophisticated Jenblossom Cellars collection of ultra-premium wines. A richly-extracted, opaque purple, explosive aromas of black cherry, ripe blackberry, and cassis are interlaced with espresso, black licorice, cedar, and graphite.  With generous amounts of French oak, the palate is lean and edgy with well-integrated acid and tannin leading to a long, chalky finish.  Built to age, this is a real beauty!

2021 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

Continuing the intense gracefulness of the 2018, the ’21 Rutherford Cab is a wine to watch.  Accessible now, intriguing aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, and fresh-baked blackberry cobbler mingle with mocha and violet.  The color is a dense ruby/garnet, and the palate is a tapestry of sensations featuring a rich and aggressive mouthfeel.  The finish is long and complex, with plenty of well-integrated oak, acid, and tannin promising years of enjoyment.

2021 Petaluma Gap Pinot Noir

From vineyards high on the Southern face of Sonoma Mountain, in the recently designated (2018) Petaluma Gap AVA, this is the inaugural vintage of JB Cellars Pinot Noir. The “Gap” encompasses 202,476 acres and features cool, foggy mornings that give way to sunny afternoons.
A lovely medium garnet in hue, this delicate and sophisticated wine spent 12 months in 100% French oak with 50% being new barrels. The ABV is 14.9%. Enticing aromas of bright cherry, ripe raspberry, and cranberry toy with red licorice, violet, and rose petal. The palate is elegantly balanced with vibrant fruit flavors and brisk acidity that lead to a complex, lingering finish.

2020 Lahey Vineyards Petit Verdot
The unique red-sand terroir and elevation (3,300 feet) of the Texas High Plains bring us this powerful, yet elegant wine. Aged in new French oak barrels and boasting an impenetrable dark ruby/garnet hue, the ABV is an approachable 13.4%. Rich, layered aromas of cassis, black plum, and fresh-cracked black pepper flirt with floral notes of lilac and violet. The palate is gracefully balanced with a long, refined finish.

2019 Scary Good Cabernet Sauvignon
A dense, sensual garnet, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is from the legendary Pritchard Hill region in the heart of the Napa Valley AVA. A huge wine built to cellar for ten plus years, yet accessible now with sufficient (recc 1-1.5 hrs) decanting. Compacted layers of violet, lilac, and cedar mingle with black currant, cinnamon, Mexican vanilla, and anise. Ambitious tannins are well-integrated with sweet oak for a long, substantial finish.

2019 Lahey Vineyards Petit Verdot
The well-drained, fine, loamy red sand of the Texas High Plains and 3,300-foot elevation combine to bring us this densely structured, powerful Petit Verdot. Layered aromas of black cherry, anise, violets, and leather are showcased with a backdrop of sweet, subtle oak.

2018 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
From two legendary Napa hillside vineyards, marine-influenced morning fog and primitive volcanic soil contribute to the development of this sophisticated, elegant wine. Aromas of earthy forest floor, jammy blackberry preserves, cassis, and flint complement a huge mouthfeel with a long, fruit-driven finish and chalky tannins.

2018 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Warm days, cool nights, and gravelly Rutherford benchland soil create this refined Cabernet from the historic Rutherford AVA. Dynamic aromas of black plum, candied black cherry, cedar, and a hint of eucalyptus bring us a wine featuring great finesse and balance. Well-integrated acid and soft tannins yield a long, silky finish.

2018 Scary Good Cabernet Sauvignon
The signature wine in our Jenblossom Cellars portfolio, Scary Good grapes are 100% sourced from the storied Pritchard Hill vineyards in the epicenter of Napa. The nose shows intense aromas of black currant, blackberry, plum, cinnamon, and crème brûlée, while plenty of acidity and aggressive, muscular tannins promise a very long life.

2016 Scary Good Cabernet Sauvignon
The genesis for Jenblossom Cellars wines, this is the inaugural vintage of Scary Good. With a steady maritime breeze and volcanic red clay loam soil, this 100% Pritchard Hill wine shows aromas of black cherry, fig, violet, Mexican vanilla, and coffee bean. This beauty glides effortlessly across our palate to a long, lingering finish.
